Hello, my name is Pastor Michael Lomuscio. Hello and welcome to Christian Family Mentors Website. Today March 25th, 2020 we are in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic. There is a lot of things going on in the world as well as in America regarding this Pandemic. I want to talk for a bit about the happenings in our country.
First I want say don't panic. I know that is easier to say than to do, but think for a moment The US and China have the most sophisticated military and surveillance systems in the world yet neither could detect COVID-19. This virus has taken the world by storm and disrupted everyday life and happiness. Its has shuttered businesses and travel, sickened hundreds of thousands and killed over 21000 as of this writing.
Our government leaders are fighting to save the economy and open businesses in order to get back to a normal life all while ignoring the fact that this virus has no current cure and is spreading like a wild fire.
Jesus warned, "You cannot serve both God and money" (Matthew 6:24). In our western civilization we see money as a status symbol. The more money you have the higher class you are in society. It is as if those who have money are likening themselves to God. (Col. 3:5 & Eph. 5:5) Paul likens greed to "idolatry".
This virus has given us all a great insight and a reminder of our limitations and weaknesses as humans. We cannot control what is going on around us, nor can we control the length of our lives. These are all controlled by God and his infinite wisdom. What this virus does do for us, is give us a time to reflect as a father, mother, child and to take inventory of our lives and see what or who we really believe in. Money is here today and then gone as displayed over the past few weeks with the stock market. God on the other hand had promised us eternal life and forgiveness of our sins for FREE! that's right it is a free gift that no amount of money or status can buy! (John 3:16) all we have to do is believe and except Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Prayer is our way to communicate with God through Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament we see sickness, disease and plagues and we also see that God has taken them away. But in each lessons were learned and people grew to understand that sin or disobedience has consequences.
But God does forgive those who seek forgiveness. This new virus COVID-19 has given us a rare chance to see how Christians should respond to this pandemic. the public health crisis has made everyone face there fears over this virus. How people respond is directly related to how close a walk they have with Jesus. Some respond to their fears by blaming others for the virus, it causes some to minimize the threat and become careless with their own lives putting others at risk. yet others stand on the front lines to help those who are sick, putting their own lives at risk. For the Christians of the world, fear may cause us to reflect on our own lives and see if we are walking a Christian life or if we teeter between God and worldly possessions. This is a great time to reflect and get our lives back on track and seek Gods will.
Next, this pandemic has given us the opportunity as a global Christian community to seek the help of Jesus through prayer. Imagine the power of prayer when Christians all over the world pray together for the common cause of forgiveness and a cure to this virus. So while we continue to look to the scientists and doctors to find a cure we should pray as a Church for the Lord to aid them in their search for a cure. (2 Chron. 20:9,) 'If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you—for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.'
Lastly, this virus will test our faith in Jesus and show us where our hope lies! This is a great time to reconnect with Jesus and to pray for forgiveness as well as a renewed closer walk with God. Nothing happens by chance and in everything God has a plan, all we need to do is be still, pray, and await the answer.
I know these times are hard and you are scared! being scared is a proper emotion during this time. what you do with that fear will help you understand how close your walk is with Jesus. If you realize that you have strayed from God, this is a great time to get back on track with your walk with Christ!
Lets Pray: Lord during this time of crisis we pray for your guidance. Show us your will in our lives and help us to get our lives back on track with your Will for each of us. Please Lord help fathers to lead their children through this time of crisis and to help them understand that You are in control. Help husbands to listen to the fears of their wives and to love and comfort them. We pray for mothers to continue to love, comfort, and care for their children and to teach them that you Lord are always with them. We pray for wives to help comfort their husbands as they too have fearsl. Please Lord bring families closer during this time of uncertainty and help them to grow closer as a family and for all to grow closer to you. ~Amen
