Hello and welcome to Christian Family Mentor. The focus of what we do is to reunite God and his Creation, you and I. The Bible IS the Word of God. Contained in the Word are all the tools you will need to grow in your walk with the Lord and all the tools you will need to raise your family in such a way that will be pleasing to God. Let’s get started! What is a “Mother”? The dictionary has many definitions for the word “Mother” Here are a few; 1. To give birth to; create and produce. 2. To watch over, nourish, and protect maternally 3. Used as a title for a woman respected for her wisdom and age. 4. Maternal love and tenderness (The Free Dictionary, 2013). OK so these are just a few of the definitions of the word “mother”. Here are some real world definitions you won’t find in the dictionary. 1. A tireless helper, doctor, nurse, comforter when children or husband are feeling ill or are hurt. Yes! Husbands are in need of mothering and the wife assumes that role when they are sick or hurt. Wives tend to their husbands needs, feed them, cloth them (we all know that left to us our choice of clothes would be mismatched and often time ironed in the dryer, found on the floor or thrown over a chair). 2. Mothers have a 24/7 job, they get up in the morning to dress and feed the children (and husband) and send them off to school (and work). 3. Mothers hear our cries for help even when we say nothing. 4. Mothers are always ready to give a hug or kiss a booboo, fix our cuts and bruises and tuck in the children at night. 5. Mothers read a bedtime story and help with the bedtime prayers. 6. Mothers are the neighborhood watch to ensure ALL children are safe. 7. Mothers always have a spot in every heart of every person. 8. Mothers help a bad day turn into a good one. Om the practical side of life Mothers; 1. Clean the house 2. Wash the dishes 3. Make the beds 4. Pick up the toys 5. Do the shopping 6. Pay the bills 7. The focus of this message is what is a “Mother” in a later message I will show you what a Wife is. So now that we have the definition and real world understanding of what a mother is, let’s take a look at what the bible says about Mothers; |
Proverbs 31:26-27 ESV ; She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:25-30 ESV ; Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Matthew 12:48-50 ESV ; But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Proverbs 6:20 ESV ; My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching Proverbs 23:22-25 ESV; Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice. Proverbs 15:20 ESV ; A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother. The Bible shows us that Mothers are very important, they are teachers of kindness and love. Mothers. The word "mother" is in the King James Version of the Bible 321 times in 293 verses. Clearly for the word “mother to be mentioned so many times and in so many verses there is some importance in being a mother from the biblical standpoint! So now let us look at “what does a Christian mother look like”? Feminism of today may have failed to recognize the value and importance of motherhood, but we have not. The nuclear family is foundational to society and through their influence on their children, mothers set and keep the culture for a society.
(Pastor Harris, 2006). Now simply by having children this does not necessarily make a woman a mother (mom) any more than a man fathering a child makes him a father (dad). There are certain elements that must be present to gain those precious titles from children whether they be our own or those we have adopted. There are also certain characteristics that mark the good mom as opposed to the bad mom, the godly mom as opposed to the ungodly mom (Pastor Harris, 2006). There are many Bible passages that describe the life of a godly woman. Ephesians 5:22-33 talks about submission and respect for her husband. Many men and husbands have this verse wrong and often times take it out of context. In the context of the passage this type of submission is possible because the godly woman is walking wisely with the Lord. By placing the Lord's will above her own she is also willing to give greater preference to her husband’s will over her own. Having said that the husband should also be a godly man. Titus 2:3-5 Paul talks about older women; “Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God” (NIV). John 19:25-27 says; “ Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home” Note; that the women stayed by the cross while all the disciples fled except for John. Jesus mother and sister stayed by His side and had no concern for their own personal danger. This is the love of a mother! If you search the bible and read about other mothers in the bible you will see that even some of the powerful men of the Bible were taught by their mothers. In closing I encourage all women to read Proverbs 31:10-31. After you have completed reading this passage send me a message and tell me what you thought of it? How has this passage helped you?
